Over
500 protestors took to the streets on Monday, August 29 in militant
protest against President Bush. He was speaking at the James Brulte
Senior Center in Rancho Cucamonga. The protest was called by Riverside
Area Peace & Justice Action and co-sponsored by ANSWER - LA.
For over 2 hours in 100 degree heat demonstrators chanted with spirited
determination to let Bush know that he is not welcome in Southern
California. During the action, protesters lined the President's
motorcade route. As the heavily guarded motorcade passed by,
demonstrators chanted loudly, "George Bush, War Criminal!" and "Bring
the Troops Home Now!"
Aimee
Hunter of Youth & Student ANSWER said about the protest, "People from
all over the greater Los Angeles area and from every community converged
on Ranch Cucamonga today to stand together in the streets in opposition
to Bush's anti-people policies and to stop the war on Iraq."
She continued, "People are out here today because they know that this
war is not in their interests. The war abroad on the people of Iraq and
elsewhere is linked to the war on social services, health care,
immigrants and working communities at home. That's why you see people
out here with signs saying, 'Save Social Security'; 'US out of Iraq, End
War & Occupation'; and "Say no to Racism.' We're all united and standing
shoulder to shoulder today! If we keep this up and raise the level of
intensity, the movement in the US can help stop this war."
The encouraging outpouring of resistance to Bush and the US war on Iraq
on a Monday afternoon in scorching conditions vividly shows that the
growing anti-war & pro-people movement has the momentum. Bush is on the
defensive. Let's take the initiatve and come out onto the streets of Los
Angeles, San Francisco and Washington DC on September 24 in the biggest
numbers possible.
