Racist protest defeated in Alhambra
June 18, 2005

Back ] Next ]

On Saturday, June 18 at Home Depot in Alhambra 300 militant and determined anti-racist protesters shouted down 25 anti-immigrant protesters. Community, anti-war and social justice groups mobilized to defend immigrant rights against right-wing bigots. Day laborers and community members also joined the protest.

Save Our State, the racist hate group that organized the protest, has been staging demonstrations at Home Depots around Southern California. These gatherings are meant to intimidate day laborers and whip up the right-wing. Day laborers gather legally at Home Depots to look for work.

At 9 am on Saturday, protesters surrounded the racists on the sidewalk, chanting loudly, "Racists Go Home" and "SOS, KKK, Minutemen Go Away." The racists then fled down the sidewalk under police protection and huddled on one corner of the main entrance to the Home Depot. Anti-racist protestors then took over the other three corners of the main intersection until the racists disbanded.

After the anti-people SOS left in defeat, counter-demonstrators held a victory rally. Everyone gathered pledged to unite and fight the racists whenever and wherever they assemble to attack oppressed communities.

Next up for the fight against SOS and the racist Minuteman is a counter-demonstration in Baldwin Park on Saturday, June 25th at 11 am. Call 323-464-1636 to get involved in the fight against racism.

The people united will never be defeated!
