It’s finally the moment Filet-O-Fish fans have been waiting for… the Double Filet-O-Fish has arrived!

McDonald’s in the UK has launched a brand new twist on the iconic burger for the very first time in its 50 year history.

The new item, which costs £5.29, features not one but two pollock fish patties in crispy breadcrumbs, melted cheese and tartare sauce inside a steamed bun.

Brits raced to get their hands on it after it dropped at 11am on July 1, with those who tried it hailing it as ‘perfect’, ‘truly amazing’, ‘the best’ and ‘worth the wait’.

However, some who tried ordering it via the McDonald’s app and as well as other apps like Deliveroo, have pointed out one issue with the new product.

Currently, you can’t customise your Double Filet-O-Fish order via apps to add anything extra – you can only take away existing ingredients completely.

So, you can remove the cheese or the tartare sauce from the burger, but you can’t substitute these for anything else, like swapping tartatre sauce for ketchup.

Instead, your only option when ordering this way would be to add a ketchup dip to your order for an additional 20p.

This was an issue Chris Cuthill experienced, as he shared: ‘No Tartare sauce for me, but no option to add tomato sauce!’

But this only seems to be the case when ordering via the app or on the screens in restaurants. Those who pyhsically went up to a cashier were able to make changes to their order in person.

Alexis Victoria proved this in The Filet-O-Fish Facebook Society of 2012 group when she posted a snap of her Double with extra pickles.

You should also expect the unexpected when it comes to the ‘placement’ of your Double Filet-O-Fish.

Hilarious snaps of wonky burgers have been shared all over social media, and according to Will Davenport, ‘most shops are making it wrong’.

He claims the slice of cheese should be sandwiched in between the two patties and it should be a full slice of cheese – unlike in the regular Filet-O-Fish where customers only get half a slice.

However, some people have received burgers with cheese on the bottom of the two patties and some have only been given half a slice of cheese.

According to food reviewer, Bald Food Guy, if you’re served a Double Filet-O-Fish with cheese on the bottom, it’s a ‘waste of time’.

In his YouTube review, he claimed that the cheese was ‘lost’ at the bottom of the burger and he couldn’t taste it. He urged the fast food chain to add more cheese.

And @emilyjade felt similarly about her Double Filet, claiming without cheese in the middle, the whole thing was quite ‘dry’.

And while more cheese never goes amiss, these niggles don’t seem to have put the vast majority of people off, with many absolutely obsessed with the new product.

On TikTok, a user known as @sarahxgriffiths went as far as to brand the new burger ‘orgasmic’, while @elieeewbu claimed ‘life couldn’t get any better’ after trying it, adding it had ‘answered all her prayers’.

If those reviews don’t make you want to grab your car keys and head out to Maccies, I don’t know what will…
