Today
a war criminal was crowned
Talk given by Stefanie Beacham of the Party for Socialism and
Liberation
at Jan 20 Counter-Inaugural in Los Angeles
Today a war criminal was crowned in DC. The US ruling class is marching
to the right. And we’re exactly where we should be, on the streets,
united with people all over the world and all over the country in our
resistance to war, occupation, racism and bigotry.
There is a growing divide in this country, really in the world. Its not
about red states vs. blue states. The real divide is between the rich
and the poor. The rich are getting richer. The poor are getting poorer.
All around the world and here in the US.
The war in Iraq is dividing us. A rich man’s war and occupation for oil.
This is not our war. Even for the people in the so-called red states,
this is not their war. We need to keep on reaching out to the thousands
in every state who will join us on the streets in the coming months and
years as the conditions of our daily lives continue to worsen and as US
imperialism continues to send young women and men from mostly poor
neighborhoods to fight and die in wars of greed and domination.
Here in the US, the wealthy elite is marching to the right, whipping up
hatred, reaction and fearmongering, in order to squeeze more profits off
our backs. They want to divide working people, appealing to nationalism,
racism and homophobia so they can take our unions, our schools, our
wages, our affirmative action, our rights, our pensions, our hospitals -
everything we’ve fought for. Everything we’ve taken to the streets to
win. Now they want to privatize our social security. The differences
between what Bush and his class want and what we need are huge.
The time to fight is now. We must continue to unite & take to the
streets in organized and militant protest. Bush and his cronies want to
divide us. We must answer with unity - a broad people’s movement of the
vast majority that’s organized to fight the right. To fight the system
itself.
We must fight racism. Stand with our LGBT sisters and brothers as they
fight for same-sex marriage rights and full equality. As women, we must
unite with all sectors of the movement to beat back the attacks on our
right to choose and to continue our struggle for equal rights. The fight
for immigrant rights - like every struggle - is our struggle too.
The imperialist war in Iraq and the war on social services here at home
are part of an open assault of the wealthy for greater profits in the
absence of a strong and vital working class movement here in the US. The
Party for Socialism and Liberation seeks to join with all those who want
to build a growing mass movement right here in the belly of the beast
that will put an end to, once and for all, the attacks of the
corporations. Let’s continue to strengthen each other in the struggle!
End the occupation of Iraq, Afghanistan & Haiti! Defend socialist Cuba!
Free Palestine! US hands off the Philippines, Korea, Venezuela,
Colombia, and everywhere! Same-sex marriage rights now! Fight Racism &
Sexism. Defend Immigrant Rights! Down with Bush! Bring the Troops Home
Now! Stop the War! Unite & Fight the Right!
